StepsA man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way?” Proverbs 20:24 NIV
Lately, I have been busy with our leadership making plans for the future of our church. Some of our goals are very audacious, yet achievable. The way to achieve larger, more complex goals comes down to taking the right steps. One of the reasons many people do not achieve what they want in life is because they never get started. The way to achieve larger goals is to break them down into doable steps on a daily or week-by-week basis. That's exactly what we have been doing in our leadership meetings. Here's the goal, here's the necessary steps, let's begin with step one. We are now starting to walk toward our goals.
I think these principles apply in our own personal lives as well. I've been trying to lose some weight. I've decided to do this because my son, who is 6'2" can now over power me in basketball (I'm only 5'8") My only advantage is my speed. The extra weight has slowed my speed down, thus the reason for losing it. I've started taking small steps...no more diet cokes (that's hard!), no sweets for a while (even harder), and no chocolate candy (the hardest). The results...so far about 15lbs.
Have you ordered your steps lately or are you simply avoiding getting started? Large goals should not intimidate you…they should challenge you to become disciplined to put the right priorities and actions in place to make your goals not only achievable, but virtually inevitable. Got big goals? Think “steps.”
